Colorado Springs Pre-Convention Excursion

Mountains, a historical Castle with lunch and shopping!! Join us the day before the convention for a relaxing day exploring the beauty and history of Colorado Springs.


Our day begins when our bus leaves the hotel at 8:00 AM for the Garden of the Gods Park, a registered National Natural Landmark with dramatic views of towering sandstone rock formations against a backdrop of snow-capped Pikes Peak. For more information go to


The next stop is historic Glen Eyrie Castle, the magnificent estate of Civil War General William Palmer, founder of Colorado Springs and the Colorado Springs Railroad. The English Tudor-style castle was built in 1871 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. You will tour the grounds, carriage house and first and second floors of the castle and learn all about its illustrious past. You might even be treated to a sighting of wild bighorn sheep that roam the countryside! After the tour a fabulous themed lunch will be served in the carriage house dining room. After lunch the bus will stop in Old Colorado City around 1:30 PM, where you are on your own for the afternoon to browse the unique shops, tour the galleries and artist workshops or simply enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee with your friends. Of special note is the Simpich Showcase Theatre, where you can view the marionettes on exhibit in the museum and gift shop. For more information go


The bus will take us back to the hotel by 5:00 PM.


The fee for the Colorado Springs Excursion is $149 per person. Space is limited, so sign up early. If you have any special needs, including dietary restrictions, please contact Kitty Murks at The bus is not wheelchair accessible, but scooters and wheelchairs can be stored underneath. You must be registered for the event to participate in the pre-convention tour. Fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
